During the maintenance process, you may find some car has big traffic noise. But when you check the tyre, there is no abnormal abrasion; and there is no abnormal sound when you rotate the wheel on the car lifting machine. In most cases, this kind of condition is caused by abnormal damage of wheel hub bearings. By “abnormal”, it means that the bearings damage is caused by improper installation.
The front wheel bearings of the car are generally double row ball bearing. When you install the bearing, if you use a hammer to knock and install, or if you install the bearing into the bearing block in the way of pressing bearing inner ring, you may cause damage to one side bearing raceway. When the car is traveling, there is noise, but when the wheel is off the ground, there will be no noise for there is still one good raceway. The correct installation is the key point of long service life of bearings.
