Nine Steps of Bearing Manufacture

Bearings are important parts of household electrical appliances, industrial equipment, automobile generators and fans. In this article, it will show the manufacture process of bearing.

There are 9 steps in the manufacture of bearing.

I. Manufacture of Bearing Ring

After the bearing ring was lathed into a correct degree of thickness, the inner ring is put into the outer ring. They are ground to a correct degree of thickness by a grinder, which is then checked by a gauge.

II. Grinding of Inner Ring and Outer Ring

A machine then separates the inner ring from the outer ring and their outer surface are ground with different machines.

The outer ring enters the grinder, which grinds its surface to a precise circle with an accurate diameter and water-soluble solution is used to prevent the bearing ring from overheating, which can cause warping. Only after measurement, the bearing ring can be discharged from the grinder.

III. Grinding of Raceway of Inner Ring and Outer Ring

The outer diameter of the bearing is machined to precise roundness and size by a grinding machine with an oil coolant, and the inner ring and its raceway are machined by a similar machine.

IV. Polishing of Bearing Ring

The surface of the bearing ring is polished with a greased grinding machine until it is shiny.

V. Cleaning

It is soaked in oil in a stone grinder and cleaned with kerosene.

VI. Manufacture of Balls

The raw material used to make the balls is steel wire, which is cut into sections by a machine. And then they are punched into bland beads by a die bed and a grinder and are ground into round and smooth shape by another machine.  The whole process takes several days.

After being hardened by the furnace and cleaned with cleaning agent, the balls are sent to the groove after quality inspection. The groove is placed on an automatic assembly machine. The ball feeder sends the balls to a pushing device through a hose. The pushing device pushes the correct number of balls into the raceway between the inner and outer rings.

VII. Installation of Cage

The balls can be fixed on a raceway by a metal frame. The first machine first installs half of the cage, which has slots in it.  Then the other machine carefully installs the other half of the cage, which has notch in it. The machine rotates the bearings for test and then completely connects the two cages. The bearing is installed completely.

VIII. Cleaning with Solution Spray and Quality Test

This vibration noise detector detects whether the bearing can work quietly. Some bearings may need lubricating oil, which is evenly spread on the raceway by a machine and sealed with a rubber ring. The final quality test is to weed out the bearings that do not meet the quality requirements by an automatic control tester.

IV. Laser Engraving

Qualified products are sent to a laser machine, which engraves information such as model and serial number on the bearing.
